Pulmonology

A cutting-edge specialty necessary in any primary healthcare structure.

In a healthcare structure like HealthSpot, it is possible that patients come or that doctors of various specialties refer their patients for the following reasons:

  • investigation of an acute or chronic symptom of the respiratory system (cough, shortness of breath, sputum production, chest pain, etc.);
  • monitoring of an already diagnosed chronic disease of the respiratory system (bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis and other diffuse lung diseases, chronic respiratory failure, etc.);
  • re-examination in a diagnosed acute disease that received therapeutic treatment (upper respiratory infection, acute bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.);
  • spirometry and flow-volume curve before and after bronchodilation;
  • oximetry at rest and during fatigue;
  • measurement of arterial blood gases;
  • chest X-ray;
  • consultation regarding symptoms or test findings (e.g. chest x-ray);
  • quit smoking.

If there is a need for more specialized control of the respiratory function (measurement of lung volumes, diffusion capacity, respiratory muscle strength) or for bronchoscopy due to an imaging finding or symptom such as hemoptysis or chronic persistent cough or finally for a polysomnographic sleep study (in a patient with symptoms compatible with sleep apnea syndrome) apnea such as snoring, reported breathing interruptions during sleep, morning fatigue, daytime sleepiness), these examinations are carried out by appointment at the Hellenic Healthcare Group (HHG) Hospitals by specialized and experienced medical staff using the most advanced technological equipment.
